The Online Christopher Walken fan club evolved on the
internet as early as 1996, when fans began to create
Christopher Walken tribute websites, making information
and photos available for fans. A couple websites contained
message boards, where fans could post about the actor
and get to know one another. One fan, Leah Furman (aka
Daks) decided to start a club and asked the fans she
knew to sign up. In 1999, when Daks no longer had time
to manage members, Candy Rosenbaum suggested creating
a new website and volunteered to become Secretary. Several
people suggested having Kathleen Hagiwara as President
and she selected Carolyn Hinton to assist her as Vice
President. (Now the three refer to themselves as coordinators)
Since the exists solely on the internet, it took on
the name "The Online Christopher Walken Fan Club"
The Club has had members from 41 different countries
around the world and remains the only worldwide Fan
Club in existence. In 2001, Mr. Walken attended the
first Fan Club event held in New York after a performance
in "The Seagull" for Shakespeare In The Park.
Later that same year, he was quoted in Empire magazine
about how he enjoyed that evening. In early 2003, a
Premium membership was introduced, offering due-paying
fans additional benefits. The Basic membership remained
free.
